A beautiful bird, indeed! I've seldom had much luck approaching close enough to a Kestrel for a good shot, even when hauling the 600mm f/4IS. I see your subject has what appears to be a furry meal. My guess is this is the reason it was sitting still for you.

What lens did you use?

500mm Canon f4 lens -

I usually have the same problem with them sitting still. It seems the only yime I ever get them to play is if they have a meal in their talons.
 
A beautiful shot of a beautiful bird, Jaime. Just love Kestrels, and rarely get to see or shoot them.

You might tweak the levels on this shot, as it is a bit dark, and would really "pop" with adjustment of black, grey and white points.
