Kingfisher...little hide and seek!

While I was waiting on the Eagle to return I noticed this KingFisher trying to hide from me in the Palm tree next to me.

Probably my closest shot of this bird, they are so nervous around humans...

These are tough to get in my neighborhood. How close did you get?

The best I have done resulted in a sixth of an APS-C frame at 400mm.
 
Nice catch! Agreed - Kingfishers are notoriously skittish, and tough to get within any reasonable distance.

One of the best strategies is one which you accidentally ended up benefitting from: watch and see where they come and go from, as they'll often return to a few different favorite perches, and then just set up and wait for them to come to you!

Yup. I'm considering a small, portable blind. Any thoughts on those?
