Charlotte,

I love your brood of kids! Wonderful expressions.

"The lens shows us who we are, not what we think we see"

That might be true, but what are the conditions? After all, even a detective would take joyous memories like yours at his family get togethers. However, pictures of a crime scene would reflect on the subject only and technique, but not the character of the person doing the work.

Non-documentary pictures can be taken with one's heart, as Fahim infers, his "One lens claim" here and Doug so beautifully diagrams!

Dear Asher

this is not a crime scene my friend
it is a simple candid of joy-

My art is who I am

each individual in photography whatever they see is who they are

a crime photographer is who he or she is
I am a candid photographer
and book cover overlay artist-

Thank you so very much for you being around my art
I so appreciate that-

Peyton has gone on to first grade very successfully
and Parker is now going to junior high

the pool was so full of boys and one little girl
just what I wanted to show-

some sweetness in this world.....ya know-

Charlotte,

I think you missed my point, perhaps. I was looking at your assertion that "The lens, [i.e. picture], shows us who we are not what we think we see." For this wonderful detective home with his family, taking pictures of his daughter with her many friends, his pictures would be of a happy father, not of a detective. So that's why I questioned how we apply your aphorism.

I think there's some sense of truth in your statement, but it needs a little a little more. Maybe, "The "sum" of all the various pictures taken by a person over a long period, might describes the photographer more than the varied subjects the lens is aimed at."

I'm glad to provided your saying as a stimulus to asking, "Just what are we showing when we share photographs?"

good Saturday mornin' to ya'
well more or less you could take that in so many ways
My brain thinks in metaphor-strange things happen inside" my mind
I think that as another way one might understand this is
also the photo is a part of who we are spiritually when we take the shot
what we see" is a part of who we are" manymanymany times the lens catches a lot of what we thought we saw but upon a reflective look at the end product "we see more"
you could say it's a combination of lens and human gives a total reflection of the person who is taking the shot- whew-well that's my insight into my own sayings" LOL- btw' those kids were discussing Oppenheimer -the boys were- can you believe it!
