Lessons Photography Has Taught Me

A Photo Essay Just for Fun.

Things photography has taught me.

]1. Some things require work. A lot of it.

2. Photography is an expensive hobby…and makes a mess of your desk.

3. Photography leads to personal growth. It can make you face your fears.

Great list Rachel!

1. Some things require work. A lot of it.
2. Photography is an expensive hobby…and makes a mess of your desk.
3. Photography leads to personal growth. It can make you face your fears.
4. Places look very different with the changing seasons.
5. Photography causes you to look at old things in new ways
6. There is beauty everywhere…even the waiting room of your physician’s office.
7. It’s hard to change lenses while wearing ski gloves.
8. Photographers are nuts.
Hi Rachel,

Here's my take on it:
1. Learning new skills, honing them and perfecting them is indeed very, very hard. It shows the strong character of a person taking on this Herculean challenge.
2. Yep. I've been there, spent many fortunes on the stuff I bought, I still do. Re. the desk, you know the famous quote by Laurence Peter:
If a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind, what is the significance of a clean desk?
3. Definitely. See point one above.
4. The Byrds have said it all before:
To everything
(Turn, turn, turn)
There is a season
(Turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose
Under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything
(Turn, turn, turn)
There is a season
(Turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose
Under Heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything
(Turn, turn, turn)
There is a season
(Turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose
Under Heaven

A time of war, a time of peace
A time to love, a time to hate
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything
(Turn, turn, turn)
There is a season
(Turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose
Under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sow
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late.
5. Did you already start framing the real world around you into compositional aspects? If so, you're right on track getting there <LOL>.
6. See 6 above. Just a matter of finding beauty in things, which is a mindset (see 1 above).
7. Do not wear ski gloves. But wear sunscreen.
8. Yeah, and then critics crack them ;-P

Cheers,

Made me laugh, Cem.

When I was an undergrad I was taught how to understand the difference between neurosis and psychosis. Neurotics build castles in the sky. Psychotics live in castles in the sky.

And psychiatrists charge rent on them.

I hope people have fun with this thread. That was my only goal in starting it.

Hi Rachel,

I sincerely hope that you'll achieve that goal. No wait, I know you'll achieve that goal. In my case, you already have :).

OK people, now I've got to go to sleep and rest since I have a very tiring week ahead of me. Before I go, it is time for the Mad Magazine's infamous "Snappy answers to stupid questions" Dept. :

How many ski-glove wearing photographers does it take to change a light bulb, err, a lens?

Make your creativity work and give me some really snappy answers pls.

Good night! Or morning, or afternoon, wherever you are.

Don't know about photographers, but according to one of the founding fellows of Apple:
Q: How many Microsoft employees does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Just one, by holding up the bulb.

That's because Bill Gates makes them believe that the universe revolves around them.

What do you get when you cross a snort with a giggle?

Dunno what you call it, but that's what I did when I read Bart's joke. It was NOT pretty.

Hi Cem - Rachel

A few possible answers on that one

1: None ... because its the lens that has to "want" to change :)

2 None...... Your assistant does it for you!!

3. None....... All true photographers only use one lens....... generally attached to something with Leica written on it.

4. None....If you use a Canon 1DMKIII you have so many copies of it trying to find one that focuses, you have a body for every lens anyway...

5. None.. Coz if you are married your wife or husband won't let you buy more than one lens anyway.

Think that covers it :)

Hi John,

Why on earth are you so thorough? You've indeed covered all bases. No one shall answer after this ;-).

You've made really laugh, thanks. Especially 3 and 4.

Cheers,
