I live in a beautifull part of South Australia in the Adelaide hills and my passion is to capture the best image that I can. I work in a job that is hard for me because I'm Dyslexic. I would truly love to be a fulltime photographer. Adelaide is a small city with limited opportunity . It is difficult for a middle aged guy to get a reputation that he is trustworthy and can do the work asked of him . I have walked the streets many times with my portfolio and have left my card but I hardly get a lookin. The best camera I can afford is a Canon D400 with a 18-55 + 35-135 + 70-300 lenses. I have an old National flash gun that will shoot 30 meters and a strong trypod that stands five foot six high when open. Any advice is welcome. I would like to know people that work in the field professionally evan working for them if possible.

Welcome Richard,

Glad to have you with us. The first thing to do is to post some of your pictures. Except if you can teach printing or lighting skills or show people where to take the best shots, to get interest, you need to show photographs that people are going to want. Now there may be no one here to be able to give you the connections you need. Many photographers accept that for them, at least, photography is a hobby or a passion. We don't have the ability to make people successful. What we do have however, is enough global experience and common sense to sometimes give very useful feedback. You'll always get some appreciative comments. Yes, that's nice in itself and encouraging when people say they really like your work. That wont feed you! At least you may also get realistic feedback.

So good luck to you. I'd start by showing some pictures and the sort of work you'd like to do more of. Remember, lots of photographers can't sell stuff either! There needs to be another person who taste does not exclude our work!

Some encouragemnt

Here's a funny Richard.

I was on a set with someone who regularly does fashion work and this person shot with a Nikon 200D and an 18-70mm lens (just about as inexpensive as you can get).

So granted there was a lot of rental equipment, this photog does beautiful work.

Pusuing a passion for a livlihood often invloves much angst, especially in the arts.

That's why a place like this so beautiful.

Learn all that you can and then some.

You never know where this journey may take you.
