London's Statues & Monuments #2

This is another one for the project, and in this one I wanted to show a sense of scale and space. I liked the sculptural quality of the gardens plants, too.

This is very well done, Paul. The composition is superb as is the tonality. I'm particularly taken with the dark tree branch that frames the narrow-leaved plant (I know nothing about plants so cannot better articulate my point descriptively).

I would be very interested to hear more about your pen-and-ink process. It's clear that you put a lot of thought into your photographs and a description of your approach is something about which I would really like to hear more.

Thanks for showing,

Wendy

Thanks very much, Wendy.

I felt that there was some symmetry in this with the mid to dark line of foliage in the bottom of the scene mimicking the angle of the branch above, and its trunk helped frame the statue too.
There is some nice detail in this shot, it goes without saying really. Again, I echo what Ken said about a medium or large format approach, it would really help here.

Wendy, I carry a little notebook and pen around with me and in it I roughly draw a square inch box of the scene and its elements, with little reminders of certain details. It helps me to take time out and digest the scene in front of me.
