Mac OS X.10.5 Dialog boxes popping up everywhere!

I am puzzled why when I'm going to select another option in any application, the Mac OS X dialog boxes of various context flavors appear, wherever one puts the mouse. That new context-specified dialog box can't be dismissed that easily! So one is stuck!

It occurs generally after one has made one or more selection clicks in the dialog box of any application, Safari, Autopano Giga and more.

Here's an example.

OS X.9 dropdown menus appearing spointaniously.jpg

The dialog box on the right is not wanted! All I am actually trying to do update a post. Either by selection of "Preview" or "Submit", but neither are accessible due to the invading popup dialog box taking control!

I can disable the appearance of these unwanted dialog boxes by either force "Finder" to quite and rebuild or else waiting. It will then be normal for a couple of selections of the application's dialog box and then the malady returns!

No doubt this is something solved by a simple setting. anyone know?

Hi, Asher,

No Mac experience at all here of course (other than with cheese).

Any chance your machine is just "baffled"? Have you rebooted it to see if this situation prevails?

I occasionally have vaguely-comparable misbehavior in my Windows machine. (Yes, I know, Mac people tell me, "you should get a Mac - they don't do things like that".) Sometimes it results from often opening and closing an application (for testing) that is known to have untidy memory management practices.

But the other day it just "sprung up".

Best regards,

Doug

Thanks, Doug, for popping in to help!

I have rebooted several times and even reinstalled a fresh copy of the operating system! So perhaps this bug has never come up! Hopefully, someone might recognize this issue!

Doug, am I describing it well enough for a search? Any terms better to use?

Well, it turns out the Apple support knows of this issue. They have their own data base search engine and the tech right away said that Apple does not officially acknowledge that this is a bug, but it's users have reported it extensively with OS 10.10 software especially in some Mac apps but then generally in lots of different 3rd party software too.

But there I see a discussion of uncalled for "Empty dialog Boxes" as opposed to mine which have choice that can be selected. Still it's the same kind of problem and the solution is said to be upgrading to OS X.11 El Capitan!

We'll see.

I suggest to OS X users in 10.9 and below and not having issues, stay where you are or upgrade at no charge AFAIK, to El Capitan. Don't use X.10 or any versions of it if you are not on that right now.

with all OS (Mac, Windows, Linux) wether thy are brand new or evolved upgrades one can get some bugs…
It also may not only depends from the OS itself bu from third parties softwares installed, plugins etc.
I have El Capitan running on my MacBook Pro running since the day after they released it and ALL software do run smoothly, some even faster.
Photoshop, dreamweaver, lightroom, Microsoft things etc, etc.
Of course I do not have installed it on my main working machine, I still wait a few more testing days on the MacBookPro…
So, why make people paranoids!
If it is not the machine you make your food from, you may install updates!
Then it it works comfortably, install it also on your feeding machine…
imHo : )

By the way, I know very well this hoping window, I use it frequently (to email a document)…
To get it "normally" you have to click on a document (or selection) together with the so called "control" key (or just a right click if you have updated with a modern mouse ;)

EDIT:
I forgot that some times, sw aren't supported my new OS, this is the case of "image fuser" since Yosemite OS.
I emailed to the author who kindly replied that he is not supporting anymore Mac OS, but Windows only… too bad!

So this let me think that you may have a problem with the control key with possible intermittent contact (or short circuit) some coffee? tea?

If you can, I suggest that you try your Mac with an different keyboard, if no change and if you have a modern mouse, try to use another one instead…

When we have a problem with our computers, most of the time one "charge" the maker forgetting the eventual "user's fault"…

If these 2 tries do not make it, update your OS !

If you don't use the secondary click on your track pad, go to system preferences -> trackpad and deactivate it. You will still be able to access it by using ctrl-click.

Do you also have a Wacom tablet attached to that computer?

So Asher
did you sort this problem ?
Or do you get used to these fancy popping windows?

I find that I can get around some issues using a modern Apple mouse instead of the trackpad. Under El Capitan, a new problem: in Autopano Giga 4.2 after selecting 2 vertical lines, the software gets stuck!

This is with my MacBook Pro. Will try just using an external mouse. Could be faulty keyboard/sandwich droppings or ant going after that, LOL!

Hmm, looks like my previous idea!
The solution could be a cleaning of the Mac' interior (by an Apple service…)

Not here! Autopano Giga 4.2 intensively used these last days without any pb…

See above…
