Man of Steel

I took this image yesterday at my work. I was trying out my new 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with my
Nikon D200. This guy is one of our oldtime toolmakers, which unfortunately is becoming a rare breed in this country. I wanted to show him in this dark, grungy light because it sort of exemplifies the atmosphere of the environment that he works in and also the state of our manufacturing presence, what little remains, here in the states.

No it's not HDR and yes, it's probably due to the USM. The halo is definitely something I fight sometimes when I do HDR but now it seems I am fighting it at other times too. Actually, rather than thinking of it as halo, I like to think of it as his aura.

I mentioned this before, but I think a feathered edge is great for sharpening which should be, IMHO, by selection, masking or erasin with a soft brush.

Still, as it is I like the picture.

Look at Tim Armes' work with craftsmen too. This is an excellent and under-explored topic.

Cool shot for reasons already stated. Wish I could see his face more...bet it would be a great study...but that is a different shot outside of this composition, very nice work!
