Jake,

Great variety of shots. Can you also give a description to tell us what's going on in this last picture.

An awful lot of variation in folks expressions and attitude!

Well Kiss was performing this year at the Minnesota State Fair. There were look alikes and lil tikes all over. This young child caught me snapping a few away and posed. The previous picture was taken moments before.

I have some more I should have shared with these to tie them all together.

Jake, a very appropriate and well seen and captured tour at the fair.

I like these; much more so than the wa views of happenings.

Well done and thanks for sharing.

My two favoriites, nicely done.
The first for the interesting look upon his face.
The furrowed brow, the upward gaze.
The second for the young girl willing to pose for you.
You might want to try to darken the seated people, it may bring even more attention to her.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. I cannot wait till next years fair as I plan to add a nikon 180 f2.8 IF Ed and some teleconverters to the mix.

John thanks for the critique. As of now no PP software will run on my very outdated laptop, although i'm currently building a dedicated PP desktop setup for post processing. As for now I will work on getting a broader tonal range in my exposures and getting the best I can(with my limited technical knowledge) straight out the camera.

Anyone know of a seriously BASIC layers program to get me started learning on? I need something seriously basic. The big ones (Photoshop, Gimp, etc.) bluntly suck on this laptop!

thanks,
jake

Hi Jake,
So often many image takers assume everything can be fixed in PP.
They fail to invest even a small amount of time or effort in learning proper exposure and composition.
I'm happy to hear a desire to get "the best...straight out of the camera".
I'm not able to help with a PP s/w suggestion for a performance deprived laptop, however maybe Bart or Asher might offer some suggestions.
Considering you're already in the process of building a desktop machine, question is: why do anything?

This is one reason I've put back PP is to not think about fixing things later. I would just love to play with layers and also possibly focus stacking so I can have some fun when these Minnesnowta winters are over and the bugs come out!

I haven't started building it quite yet, just doing much research and saving. Who knows where that money will fall when the time comes to purchase! Desktop vs D3s vs nikon 200 f2 vs 24 f1.4 vs 35 f1.4 vs 85 f1.4! If only I could win the lotto! A room dedicated to photography equipment I'd have, more likely an entire floor.

I very much agree that many new to the photography world realize how much can be "fixed" with PP and forget how much they can actually capture with device in hand, beforehand.
