Fahim,

Most of us do not know enough to immediately understand the richness of Mogador. A quick search delivers this:

Essaouira (Arabic: الصويرة‎, as-Ṣawīra; Berber Tassort) is a city in the western Moroccan economic region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, on the Atlantic coast. Since the 16th century, the city has also been known by its Portuguese name of Mogador or Mogadore. The Berber name means the wall, a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city. Source

Thanks, Fahim, for bringing this fascinating cultural a trade center to our attention. It has served so many foreign masters over the centuries, but in the end, has commanded its own identity and a friendly and hospitable place for citizens and tourists alike. It was a major trading gateway for deeper, landlocked parts of the country all the way to the Sahara desert communities. Unfortunately, the circumnavigation by coastal trading ships around N.Western Africa, caused a decline in such trade and made Kingdoms like Benin much further south starved of commerce and slip back into the landscape.

Mogador, however, with its direct access to the sea, survived and was used as an imperial staging area for colonialist troops from European countries to expand their reach on the north African region.

I'd imagine that nights in Mogador are similar to those in Bodrum, southern Turkey, where one can dine by the water with the Crusador fort in the background, eating fish that swam that morning in the water nearby.

As usual, Aisha is a tourist with her backpack and elegant dress. In the background there's so much of interest. Which to study first? The overturned, bird spattered, weathered boats; the old fort walls or the crowd of people in the background watching some interesting event or entertainment.

I do hope you took more pictures of these interesting features, but as fitting, Aisha is still the star and has no competition really.

Hi, Fahim,

That is just stunning!

It looks as if it might have come from an espionage drama film (the B&W rendering helps that)!

Our best to the model!

Best regards,

Doug

Thanks Asher for the comment.

Bodrum nights! Lovely place my friend. But a very quick transit stop for us both. We leave it for the

young huns!! Collect our car from the airport and head out east. Into the land of Troy. The villages

and the people are more to our liking.

Essaouira is not unlike a place where one would take a book, sit by the sea, listen to the gulls and

not be disturbed..except when being served tea or coffee. Or something stronger, but discreetly.

Just like the music. Discreet. Lovely. Soothing. Essaouira. Morocco. France. Subdued elegance.

Essaouira, from our window.

Excellent! Very painterly, Fahim!

Was that extra work really needed? I do like it but could I have a look at it as it came to you from the camera? Again, this is so much like the waters off Bodrum where richard Lionheart knights actually plied the area to rob passing trading ships!

Thank you Asher.

" Was that extra work really needed? "

No. Maybe yes. Is ' extra ' work really needed, in such matters? Yes and No. Depends.

Richard Lionheart...Cœur de Lion..the one who spoke very little ( if any ) English. Mother's fault

I gather.

Knights...Bodrum nights!!

I shall post the ' unpainterly ' one. Pls give me some time.

Regards.

Fahim,

I did like the processed image but this one is rewarding and I think has more staying power. There rock formations provide extra interest and detail as they interact with the water movement. As I expected, it's a wonderful sight and so romantic.

Did you ever go out in a boat there? Are you up on the walls of the fort?

Thank you Asher.

Unfortunatley, we did not get a chance to visit by boat.

This is a view from our hotel balcony. If one looked left slightly, the fort was in full view.

Best regards.
