Remarkable bird and that jagged branch helps to make the composition electric!

So tell me about AF on the Nikon? What is the smallest aperture at which AF works?

depends on the light of course.. the number of available D850 AF cross sensor focus points is reduced by the clear aperture of the lens. for example, with the 600/4E lens i used i would only have 63 cross sensor focus points out of the 99 cross sensor focus available of the 153 total focus points. adding TC's further reduces the D850 cross focus points..

for this bird i was shooting 25 point center anyway.. so really doesn't matter for most of my wildlife shots.
