Mosque&Maryjane

Not my usual type of photo, but think there is a message here. I guess tolerance would be the most optimistic interpretation.

Interesting juxtaposition. But photographically, not particularly interesting. I would not have identified the crop, had you not tipped it off in the title. Nor, would I have guessed that the tower belonged to a mosque.

This is one of those pictures that are more interesting conceptually than in the execution. If I had the opportunity, and wanted to explore this juxtaposition, I would shoot closer to the mosque, perhaps with only one, more identifiable, plant in the foreground.

Clayton,

Mary&Jane :) !!

I guess the plants are marijuana, a lot of them. Interesting news today that there is a 30% increase chance of psychosis resulting from one "joint" it goes to 50% with more!

What I see:

  • A junction between a mass of green and an abbreviated landscape of Mosque against sky.
  • The Green is comprised of an extensive lush mass of plants, some already turned to flower and perhaps seed, indicating passage of time and life cycle.
  • The mosque is only partially seen.
  • The plant leaves look like marijuana but a close up of one leaf in the foreground would be helpful

It appears that the picture might be dealing with a junction of two worlds. We are left to wonder what might be the relationship.

This is at first a picture I was going to pass by without comment, but now I recognize a photographic project worth exploring.

Clayton,

Some further thoughts,

I would anyway argue that there are at least 3 worlds here.

  • Mother Nature:, the land itself: The free rolling uninvolved "complex-simplicity" paradoxical world of mother nature that just "is", nothing else.
  • Religious Influence: The self-restricted disciplined sphere of religion in exclusive communities with detailed rules defining values and restricting behavior.
  • The Marijuana: A temptation and route of wishful self-delusion.
All 3 influence humans.

One might simplify the stage to just two players: thought controls or loss of control, religion and free association. (I do not reach any point of contemplating tolerance as in the title). If there's intent of a comparing altered thinking by religion and drugs that, per se would be an interesting concept.

Still, the Mosque and the Marijuana both lack clarity.

I'd make much more effort to define the parts photographically.

  • A new angle: one from which the whole impressive structure of the building would rise to the sky.
  • The landscape cut diagonally by the junction between the flat fields and the marijuana plants
  • One sharp perfect leaf in the foreground.
  • Wide angle lens and even a fisheye such as the 15mm Canon 2.8.

The distortion would be perfect. Religion, earth, heaven, nature, and psychosis an interesting juxtapositions of demanding influences on man!~

Hahahahaha

Yeah well, it is a psycho active drug, but as far as I know for the biochemical aspects, there is absolutely zero evidence to conclude a statement that delta-8-THC causes psychosis. I stand to be corrected.

But such propaganda occurs regulary on the news every once in a while.

I mean, give a psychotic person a joint and yeah well, he might show signs of psychosis. LOL! What I mean is that any psychoactive substance may trigger long lasting psychotic effects in predisposed people.

The problem I can see is abuse, and with extremly potent variants such as "skunk" that have a much higher concentration of THC than the average crop, this is an important issue.

I would guess more people are on serotonin neurotransmitters these days than people that smoked pot in the 60s.

Have been kept more busy than usual by my job here in Morocco so have had only time for a few snapshots. I will try get another shot of the scene before I go home next week, but only have the f30 here, and not a lot of choice as to time of day, etc. Having worked in several countries, this is not the first marijuana field I have seen, but it is impresive to see several hundred acres in a field on the outskirts of a large town.
