Superb advance in your explorations, Jim. The 21mm focal length ia an apt choice!
Great colors!
1. Try holding your camera in portrait mode and taking 3 overlapping shots lower down to be able to include more of the trees an sky.
2. With camera in landscape position, go to 90degrees from center of log and step back until you can frame the entire beautiful piece!
These two new pictures will look fabulous in both color and B&W.
This is one of the best subjects you have discovered besides the snow-capped mountains, your child and the grain silo!

Such scenes are totally nature’s patterns and have a rich ecology of diverse plants and animal life, from mosses and various air plants to nests of insects and birds that feed on them, as well as smart dressed beetles strolling pass without masks on!
Your impulse at taking this picture is well-founded. You discovered a treasure and the ability to notice will be a major way your photography will move beyond your garden fence!
