Moved To Cambridge, MA

I’ve been dormant to the point of vanished in OPF for some time now. Music (the guitar) has occupied a significant portion of my free time over the last few months and overseas burnout has been a problem. I’d gotten to the point where I didn’t want to photograph anything, go anywhere, or interact with people/places/things that smacked of Afghanistan. Six-and-a-half years of Iraq and Afghanistan had taken their toll- I had had enough.

I was offered a position in Cambridge, MA and took it- I’ve been here almost a month now and things are decidedly better- quality of life and all that. It’s an interesting town, Cambridge, and the greater Boston area, being totally new to me, has lots of exploration and photographic possibilities. I’m feeling rejuvenated creatively and am working to establish some balance between photography and music and that seems to be coming along nicely.

It’s awfully cold here (I’m from Houston) but it will pass soon, hopefully. I’ve never seen this much snow! It's melting though, and I may get out this evening for some photography along the Charles River before the reflective ice melts.

New purchase- an Epson 3880 printer. I haven’t taken it out of the box yet but am looking forward to finally printing some of the images I have made over the last few years.

A normal life! I’m overdue.

A very warm welcome back to you! How nice to hear that you are well and have moved on to another phase in your life. It must be quite a contrast: the cold vs the heat, not to mention a million other things. I wish you a "normal" life, as normal as one can get anyway. But remember, it can be a curse too. You are back in a great civilization: Harvard Square! Unlike much of Los Angeles, this new world of yours is walkable. If you meet someone new, likely you can bicycle there! Visit downtown Boston, the railway stations and North End and Faneuil Hall! Jog along the Charles river. In the spring there will be kites in the sky, children romping about and the long boats training for races.
