First I like the movement of the train.
For Western cultural idiom, it's going backwards. (For the Eastern, R-L handwriting cultures, it might be different. I'm not sure.
I dont think you rescue the picture. Rather you might relieve the picture of the distractions of emotional attachments that color, especially paints and dyes bring. But what left has to work in shape, movement, composition, gesture, texture and meaning.
Here the movement and shape work well but the texture is hardly interesting. We'd like to say a stationary person in the foreground as that would make the train move faster. Of course you can simple add the person!
I'd save this picture as an element for a background in a composition of people.
