Recent portrait of young woman. I have been working on lighting (making sure there are catch lights and no nose shadow among other things). I was going for a soft, timeless, classic look.
The bright spot near the right side of the frame is distracting, and I would have framed her so she was nearer the right side of the frame looking in, instead of out.
Good lighting, nice softness - suitable for a portrait of a woman. I like the B&W conversion also.
Hi Rachel. I like the portrait but not the framing. OTOH, it could be that you going against expectations causes an added tension. I'll have to think more of that, but one could argue in that direction.
Still, in the straightforward way to optimize the the emotional impact would be crop. If you try then I will too if that's O.K. by you?
Thanks! I have to confess I don't always get that look and so I'm not precisely sure how I do it, but I think it's due to a combination of natural light supplemented with a soft 60 watt bulb plus the lens. I used a 50 mm f/1.8. The distance is a bit outside the recommended for that aperture and I think that renders it just a bit fuzzy (or soft).
