Hi everyone.

My name is Gino and I live in San Diego. Im 27 years old and I'm an A.D. Marine. I've always been interested in photography but never pursed it as its a pretty expensive hobby but I had a bit saved up and decided to learn a little.
I picked up a Nikon D40 yesterday and I also purchased a 55-200mm lens to go along with it. Im mostly interested in taking pictures of cars (im a big car nut), flower/plants and scenic views.

If there are any websites or tutorials that anyone could post it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Welcome Gino! What is an A.D. Marine as opposed to a Marine?

Congrats on your D40! That is a very capable camera with which you could earn any prize on the planet. It just needs to be used every day! I'd suggest readiung the Macro Forum here and also going through the posts in the Entry To digital Photography Forum here on OPF.

Your 50-200 mm lens is fine. work with that first. You may or may not need a simple screw in lens to give you Macro capability. What make and name is the lens?

However, any lens will do! Macro allows one to fill the frame with your small flower and yet be somec distance from it. You don't have to pay the extra money right now! You can make wonderful pictures with any lens!

When you do have the cash and you want to go further, get a macro lens, about 100 or 150 mm. nikon makes a superb lenses and has twin flash lights that fit on the lens. That is a magic combination! See what you like and experiement with getting similar. When you run into difficulties ask questions. That's the best way!

Again, welcome to OPF! A hint, search for your question as we like to continue to work in existing threads and maybe your question is mostly answered and your now only have a final nuance to clarify.
