New traffic lights

In Munich, some traffic lights have been changed near the city center:

Your city seems to have graphics imprinted on its community brain. Are these unique to that location. I have never seen anything like them. It's as if one had no idea what on earth the current light colors mean. Is there any behavioral theory to back up this change, or is it just meant to be a more cheerful interface?

I would say "more cheerful". The standard lights had a single man standing or walking, they have been replaced by couples.

OMG, Jerome! I had no idea these were gay couples. what a riot. Yes that's very user friendly and adds another layer of reassurance to the folk. Great for them.

Imagine having traffic lights with profiles of orthodox Jews with curly side locks and big hats or the women with 7 children or else profiles of African faces with big lips. Now would these be considered not P.C., LOL, in their own neighborhoods?

Funny I never noticed anything like same sex orientated symbols. I am FFFFFF'ing blind!

Actually, the couples on the right hand side are heterosexual couples. Only the couples on the left hand side are same-sex couples.

Does that mean we can only cross at the lights which refer to our particular bent?
Is there a bisexual or trans-sexual crossing. And what of children who have not yet discovered to joys of sex and partnership? Or those that claim the right to cross wherever they wish, or, indeed, whenever or with whomever. And those who are visually impaired. What does the buzzer sound like for each impending couple. And does a person need to wait until another person can accompany them across? Is there a 'singles' lane?
How complex this is for us Aussies who merely have a red and green light and a beep or buzz. I'll never get to the other side.

For those who feel left out on on these road crossing signs, Bavarian ingenuity has thought of such contingencies.

There are 23 other crossings along the road. One goes there, looks up to find the corresponding signs. Problem solved. They have plans to add more crossings and signs as needs require.

Or as the gentle notices might remind one..why cross the road at all? Use your BMW. After all this is a Munich thing!

If one is blind, or metrosexual, or drunk, better take advantage of the wonderful Munich Metro and hop on the speedy underground train to the next station, in the direction of the other side of the road), and simply walk back! That way, one is not at any risk of being struck by other, inebriated color blind metrosexual! Voila, you arrive safely!

You are welcome to visit Munich and ask the local police about the exact regulation. Please consider that you can be fined for crossing the street when the light is red, it actually happens regularly.
