when the Scythian nomadic tribes raided rich more settled communities, there was an expectation to prove one's part in the battle. Those claiming a share of booty had to come to the tent filled with that raids treasure trove and present a rope fully of scalps or heads. There was a sign tbhat said, no heads, no booty!
