Osprey

An Osprey may log more than 160,000 migration miles during its 15-to-20-year lifetime. Scientists track Ospreys by strapping lightweight satellite transmitters to the birds’ backs. The devices pinpoint an Osprey's location to within a few hundred yards and last for 2-3 years. During 13 days in 2008, one Osprey flew 2,700 miles—from Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, to French Guiana, South America

Has anyone calculated the efficiency of travel in terms of energy used per miles of flight compared to humans or cars and planes?

Gee hard to know Asher but it would hav traveled a couple of hundred miles a day ?
It turns out that about 12% of birds are migratory and it’s about more efficient gathering of energy.

However, for migratory birds, there’s exhaustion, being eaten by predators, or simply falling out of the sky, many hit lit buildings at night so it’s a risky venture but it pays off with less competition for abundant food resources!
