Or "kitchen midden". The photo represents an area about 4.5 cm across. I found this in a corner in my laundry room. I have learned that ants carry waste from their nest to another location, waste includes feces of course but also cadavers of ants and other creatures. It also seems to include other flotsam and jetsam. The ants are only two or two and a half mm long and semitransparent so a bit smaller than my camera and lens can handle well but you can get the idea. I'm going to post a slightly larger image than I've posted previously and see how it works.
