Panoramas

Hi all ...

Thought I'd share two of my most favorite place to visit.

The first is Monument Valley. Every time I go there I expect to see either John Ford or John Wayne! This was a 2 shoot pano using the Mamiya 645 AFD II & P30+ back.

The second is Avalanche Creek in Avalanche Gorge, part of Glacier National Park, MT. This is a multiple image panorama using a 1Ds II. I've got this one printed on canvas and hanging in a gallery here in Tucson.

Very nice. That photo of Monument Valley sure brings back memories for me I was there two years ago. Looks like we might have been standing in pretty close to the same location eh?

these are splendid panos don!
while i love the colors in the monument valley, i am particularly enamored of the water level perspective in the creek pano. with the slow shutter speed for the water this must have been quite a challenge to both shoot and stitch. what stitching software do you favor?

Don and John,

Were these hand held or more likely on a tripod and ? rotated or laterally shifted?

Both of the images are multiple image panororamas and were shot using Really Right Stuff pano gear.

Thank you for the kind remarks - going to make me blush!

Shot on the run

My shot was hand held Asher using my Digital Rebel XT with a EFS 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. If I had that trip to do over again I would have slowed down and used a tripod much more than I did.

At the time a whirlwind 10 day trip through 15 national parks/state parks/national monuments seemed like a photographers dream come true, however my 20-20 hindsight tells me differently now. Oh there were countless marvelous opportunities all right but I rushed myself waayyyy too much. That's why this year's trip to Yellowstone 5 weeks from now is going to be on a much slower and more thoughtful pace. A slower pace and brand new updated camera equipment has me really looking forward to the first week of October. :)
