Part 2...In Search of Shangri-La...the Guardians

Well-known member
" The first men to be created and formed were called the Sorcerer of Fatal Laughter, The Sorcerer of the Night, Unkempt, and the Black Sorcerer...They were endowed with intelligence, they succeeded in knowing all there is in the world......they saw all that is around them, and contemplated in turn the arc of heaven and the round face of the earth..[ Then the Creator said]:' They know all..what shall we do with them? Let their sight reach only to that which is near; let them see only a little of the face of the earth!......Are they not by nature simple creatures of our making?

Must they also be gods?"
- The Popol Vuh of the Quiche Maya

Known by many names by different races in different places was a sacred place. The place where the gods
resided. A place where only a few, the chosen few, could dare transgress. If the gods chose to allow them that honor.

To the Greeks their Mt. Olympus, to the Scandinavians their Valahalla and to the Tibetians and Nepalese their Shangri-La!

The Guardians of Shangri-La had taught the mortals many things. They had endowed the mortals with
knowledge to pay homage to the Guardians. The mortals invoked the gods to protect their perilous
habitat..

They placed simple and honorable signage all across their land and especially looking across the mountains...the entrance to the fabled land , to praise the gods and ward of misfortune..

Those from these noble folk that resided in densely populated areas erected edifices to honor and praise their gods..just as they had been taught since time immemorial...

Beautiful, Sacred and awe inspiring were these offerings. But the mortals knew that they could go only
that far and no further; that they could see that far and no further; since the Guardians of their Land
and Soul were the only ones that could go anywhere, do anything, and see all....

But, as usually happens, the gods themselves had left an opening..an opening for the brave, for the pious, for those that dreamed to join with them in Shangri-La.

Few, very few, took up the challenge and many, perhaps too many died trying to fulfill a dream. But all of them knew that their dreams were what made them, what gave them life, honor and yes often times death. But at least they would have died bravely trying to enter and be with the Guardians.

To be continued.
