I was notified today that of the three images I submitted here, at least one will be included in the exhibition! This is the Dow 48th Annual Greater Michigan Art Exhibition. Two more will be reviewed by the final jury.

Sorry, but if anyone was hoping for a vacancy on Cloud Nine, I'll be occupying it for a little while.

Hi Rachel,

Congratulations! Yes, hard work can pay off, but one also needs talent and good fortune! But where are the images? You need to post then for all to see and enjoy!

It seems photobucket will only upload tiny images until I pay for another year and I've not decided to do that yet. In the meantime, here are thumbnails.

I think the first one is the one that will be exhibited, but don't know for sure.

Last fall, Ray West said something about my first exhibition being within a year. I promised him a print. As soon as I hear from him, it will be in the mail.

Hi Rachel,

The last picture is impressive. Because it is in B&W, smaller than the whole area and easily understood.

However, we do need pictures here. It's generally not a good idea to post thumbnails as it spoils the immediate joy of a good picture which would normally be taken in instantly. Unless one has just got a picture into Vogue or National Geographic, most folk might just forgo the extra effort to see a picture!

Any way, I do like the 3rd image and would love to see all three! The last one does remind me of a wonderful picture by Will Thompson.

I think you should post medium size pictures here because with the huge cross over the images, at least in the first picture, my experience is utterly blocked. I cannot assemble anything but jumbled up color because of the distraction.

Again kudos to you Rachel, but make it easy for people to share your celebration!

Asher

Rachel,

Congratulations on being selected! That is great!

I have Smugmug, Photobucket and Pbase - the latter two phasing out. I have some hidden galleries I use for displaying here at OPF so that I can right click protect on the public galleries at SM. I had images stolen from pbase and photobucket so I don't put images up there anymore.

I have smugmug but I have the copyright across them. Not sure anyone would like to see that. And theft is a big concern.

Thank you kindly, both Charlotte and Kathy.

Asher, the portrait is from about a year ago with a 5 mp point and shoot. I set the lighting, but the blurriness works in a way I couldn't have pulled off if I'd intended it. I call it "Timeless in White."

Congratulations Rachel. They're lovely images that will show well.

Last December through February Liz Siegel curated a fabulous exhibit here at the Art Institute of Chicago titled "Girls on the Verge; Portraits of Adolescence". It featured some striking images of pre/early teen girls by Lauren Greenfield, Sally Mann, Reineke Djykstra, etc. That third image of yours would have blended nicely into the exhibit.

Bravo!

Congratulations Rachel. May you go on having successes. Re: the photos, + what Asher mentioned.
Have you tried zenfolio?

Regards.

Rachel,

I have a hidden gallery in my smugmug galleries where I copy photos that I put up. You can then not watermark the gallery and where you have it on the public gallery to not link to forums, you can link the gallery for OPF and show photos bigger.

Zenfolio? No, I'll google!

Thanks for all the kind words, my friends. My time here has been extremely instrumental in getting me to this point.
