Portrait with the 50 1.2 at Photo LA 2008

Flash going off wile people care looking at Photography is not a friendly activity. So any picture taking of the denizens that populate the affair has to be in available light. For this ISO 1600 is pretty well a must unless serendipity provides an empty booth. So here I was able to use ISO 400 and a healthy 1/100 sec at f 1.2 for this interesting young man.

I really liked his comfortable attitude. More tomorrow!

50mm f/1.2

Hi Asher,
Nice image.... and he does appear to be relaxed somewhat... maybe that was due to other contributing factors ;-)

However, at f/1.2 I'd expect the DoF to be a lot narrower than displayed here. I used my 85mm at 1.2 and the DoF was only a few mm's wide, where the eyes were sharp and the tip of the nose was OOF. Here you have the nose and eyes perfect as well as half way down the cigarette. What distance were you at here ?

The girl with him was drinking from a bottle of wine, He was already mellow. He's a nice kid but has had very hard time in fact. One wouldn't know it!

What distance were you at here : 6 ft approx

The apparent extent of focus is a trompe de l'oiel, since I process from RAW linearly and then selectively add a curve where I want it and the same with sharpening. So I'm screwing with you mind, perhaps.
