Pro-Digital now

Hello everyone. My name is Philip Chong, 42, and I am from Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

I took up photography during the film era and even though I have since made the move to digital since Jan 2002 and fully committed to it from late 2005, I considered myself pretty much a newbie where advance digital workflow and most things related to digital imaging is concerned.

I will say my move to digital was timely too. Two years after my move to digital, my favorite color transparency film, Fujichrome Astia 100, was no longer available in my country due to lower demand and I was down to my last few hundred rolls I had bought in advance.

Personally-speaking, I will say the Standard Picture Style mode in EOS DSLRs is the closest to the moderate contrast and color balance as rendered in Fujichrome Astia.

Welcome Philip! We are lucky to have Photoshop to give us back some flavor at least of the classic films. I hope you also continue with film photography especially for larger scenes as the media is still rewarding for those who have the time to work with a few good negatives!

Show us some of your old film images as well as your new work!

Thank you, Asher.

It will be a while before I can share any photos here as many of my existing images have no EXIF data intact for low-res web-based purposes and their sizes are above the maximum widths of this forum - they are mostly sized for 800x600, 800x533 and 400x600 pixels.

I have PM's you! Don't worry, this is not the front page. We use the size you need for the picture from 400 to ~900 pixels, generally 600 or thereabouts.

Re EXIF, as long as it is your picture, there is no problem. Just add below it what you used as far as you can remember e.g. Canon Rebel, 50mm 1.8 lens Tri X film.

We live and breathe by photographs. Each time we look at a picture, we can learn more and also help each other by exchanging ideas and feedback. That's how it works! :)
