Quality remarks on Innova F-type Gloss

I just recieved two boxes (my first) of the Innova F-type Gloss paper.

When I opened one box and inspected the paper it looked as if the first 5-6 papers had scruff marks on them. I then noticed the idiotic plastic packaging. It seals itself with three hard plastic edges just at the middle of the sheets (not at the sides) - exactly the same place as the scruff marks. This means that when the paper is shipped, or the boxes are stacked, the plastic details will scratch the sheets. And it's the coated printing side that is damaged.

The other box had the same problem, as expected. What where they thinking at Innova?

But the real problem (aside of wasting 5-6 sheets out of 25 per box!) is that when I look at the coating of the unscruffed papers I find it to be quite uneven (varying from a little to quite much). Compared to the coating of both the Crane Museo SilverRag and Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl, which I also have, Innova seems to have quality issues with their production.

Or is it just my batch? Have others remarked on this - uneven coating?

Cheers,
Petter

I had similar experiences with the batch I received. I could unevenness in a single sheet. The coating near the edges was of decidedly poor consistency. I don't think it's the paper for me...

Same experience here, re: unevenly stippled surface. My local dealer (EximVaios) was happy to take it back, & I corresponded with Wayne Connelly at Innova about it. He said they aim at improved consistency in each batch/mill run. I don't want to be their Beta tester, so I'm staying away from it until other folks tell me it's reached a reasonable level of consistency.

HI Kirk,

If you've made the contact, let me know how to contact him. After all isn't it just a correctable packaging problem?

I'm afraid there are two separate problems. One is that the packaging scratches the first papers of the stack at three places. The second problem is the uneven coating which appears randomly (no matter where in the stack you look). The second problem has nothing to do with the packaging.

Cheers,
Petter
