Spotted this RSH in a ditch bathing but by the time I got the camera out he was already up on a post drying out........

I agree, this is one handsome bird and with excellent colors. How old do you think it is? The puffed out breast feathers. How much control do they have in spreading out their feathers? I'm interested in the feather drying as I've seen a hawk doing this for hours before the sun is sets? Warmth but no sunburns, I guess!

I suspect from the size of the others around the area that he is under a year old. He sat on that post for so long i finally left because I was getting enough pic's. He was pretty dry when I came back 20 minutes later.
He let me get very close to him, usally it means its a juvenile and really doesn't scare easy
