Rough day shooting my nieces

They're 7 and 10 and didn't want to cooperate at all. I have about 300 shots of goofy faces, and it was nearly impossible to get eye contact. I do like a couple of them, however. Thoughts?

Sydney,

You and this lens are having more than an affair! This is becoming quite serious. Not only are they beautiful, but, as I read the last two, they are poignant too.

Asher

Just to be picky, I'd try to get the entire hand, but really, that's not important in these three successful pictures.

Again, what photography was invented for!

Best regards,

Hi Sydney,

These are all lovely pictures!

For me the lack of eye contact in #2 and #3 really isn't an issue at all - as they are they capture the day-dreaming mind of a child just perfectly.

Hi Sydney,

Very charming photos. Just one nit to pick: the color balance in the first one, there seems to be a slight color cast. Don´t discard the goofy ones, you may well have other gems among them!

Thanks, Ruben. I am still really working on things like color, skin tone, and PP in general. I will give that one another shot.

And I'm FAR from done going through the pics. Yes, I will keep some goofy ones too because they will never be this age again, you know?

I am KICKING myself for not using fill flash yesterday. How do I keep forgetting that? I have some great shots that are just ruined by shadows.

Oh well, lesson learned. I ordered a reflector today too :)

Sydney, this child is enchanting and I like the poses a great deal. On my screen they look a bit overexposed or something though.

What a cutie.

Hey Rachel, I was playing with some pastel like PP, but I think I'll back it down to be more natural. I do sort of like it on these shots, but I think I went too far with it. It's interesting. The response has been mixed. It's either been WOW, how did you do that or they look over exposed. It's all so subjective. Sigh.

Sydney, look at what Ken Tanaka said on this thread. The more I think on it, the more I think it's really, really what shooters like you and I need to do. I stumble on this sometimes accidentally, but if I was more conscious of it, I'd save a lot of time and disk space.
