Samuel Beckett - St. Paul's, London '11

This is a very very hard statue to photograph well. The reason being is that Samuel lies horizontally, flat on his back on a small grassy area inside the grounds of St. Paul's.
I've tried a few times in the past to photograph him in an interesting way but I hadn't liked the results.
So, I went back again to have a final attempt...well, what do you guys think?

I came upon this quote from the guy: "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."

Hi Paul,

IMO, you have failed to fail better. Worse, you have failed to fail. :)

This is a great angle if you ask me. I like the composition. Does the tree shed it's leaves? If so, perhaps you can try taking the same picture in winter to see if it is even better without the leaves. Just an idea, nothing essential.

Thanks for sharing, I am glad that you have rediscovered your camera!

Cheers,

Many thanks, Cem.

That tree does shed it's leaves, and as you say it maybe a better time to go back and re-shoot the image when it does, cheers.

Paul, the picture is unusual and the position, looking up at the work of nature with all its seasons works for Beckett!

Apt quote! The willingness to take risks in front of one's public is a hallmark of many great actors and artists.
