Hi Folks,

I came across this site: http://www.macrostop.com/

The author offers some free PDF books about macrophotography and focusstacking that may inspire others to explore.

Cheers,
Bart

Bart,

What a splendid find! Michael Erlewine, the author is such a generous person and from what I can see has a lot of expertise to share. I was surprised by his choice of f11 for everything and then his selection of the Voigtlander 125mm Apo Lanthar and the Coastal Optics 60mm f4 lenses instead of Nikon offerings. I wonder what aspect of these optics he valued over Nikon glass.

I found this

coastalopt_60mm_uv_vis_ir_lens_1.jpg

"Coastal Optical Systems unveiled its new CoastalOpt® 60mm UV-VIS-IR 1:4 Apo Macro lens which is the first fully corrected lens for the UV-VIS-NIR spectrum. Available in the Nikon F mount, the lens supports both digital SLRs and 35mm film cameras.

The lens provides full apochromatic correction over and broad waveband ranging from the onset of atmospheric ultraviolet transparency at 315nm to the limit of CCD/CMOS sensitivity at 1100nm in the infrared.

Full lens performance data brochure is available for download from http://www.coastalopt.com.

So I can see that this 60mm Macro might have an edge on getting the most out of a picture of a detail rich scene with a high resolution camera as long as one kept to about f 5.6 to 8.0 as it is diffraction limited beyond f5.6. I saw a reference to a price at ~ $1800 but the real price is $4600!

So one really has to love one's daffodils to get this lens!

Hi Fahim,

You're welcome, help is just a request away. I'm just trying to share my fascination for the micro-cosmos that surrounds us all, everywhere. Nature, but also seemingly mundane industrial design, when watched up-close and intimate, is beautiful. Shapes, texture, symmetry, color, it's there for us to unveil ...

Cheers,
Bart
