In Memoriam: Stanley Kubrick - the sometimes ignored photographer

Michael Nagel

Well-known member
Stanley Kubrick is mostly known for his films - his early career as photographer is less known, but essential for his film work.

This is just a collection of three links to pages with photo taken by Stanley Kubrick:

Gothamist 1

Gothamist 2

MCNY

Viewing these collections help to understand how he developed his way to see for film.

For me this was very interesting as I like his work - hope there is something for you too.

Best regards,
Michael

Thanks for the link, Michael - another chink made in my frighteningly endless wall of ignorance!

Asher,

I am glad that this provided something new for you. Finally - everybody has a different set of experience(s), sharing some of these might enrich others. There are many things I am eager to learn :)

Here are two articles on how the filming of Barry Lyndon made him push the limits for cinematographic lenses:

American Cinematographer Article about the lenses development.

Had no idea Kubrick was a photographer as well. Thank you so much for this!

Have you seen the documentary Jon Ronson made about going through Kubrick's archives? Fascinating stuff.
