Hi guys,
I've just working on this image:
Matt Halstead: Stephanie
Hello Matt,
There's an unmistakeable garishness of realism about your work. Your subjects, although serving your purpose in your fantastical concoctions, appear to be real. Here, Stephanie is hardly separated from her background as if to say that she is questionably there and she stares at us to say that she's present very definitely! Here eyes are too bright to be ignored and the patina of orange red makes her seem part of some macabre performance by a real actor. Her look to us is confrontational but not hostile.
There are some interesting places in the picture where our gaze is arrested to give more attention. Here full but under-lipsticked lips, the whirl of hair to the upper right and the curve of denim around the black button on her pocket on the lower right. The long sections of hair serves to brings us back around again.
Certainly, Rachel's transformation fits in with you other pictures.
I wonder what she feels about this. not exactly a picture to put on a dating service but one to collect.
For sure this is a good source for discussion when you print it 4 ft high and let folk mill around.
