Sunrise at Angkor Wat

Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Had some minor issues when I jumped out of the cab we took here because my camera bag had been right underneath the air conditioner and the lens immediately started fogging up. Had to cup it in my hand for a minute or so to bring it back to ambient temperature.

Jeff this is a beautiful picture!

The combination of unfamiliar shapes provides interest but not answer which perhaps is all the better for Angkor Wat.

I have started to ask myself about such images whether or not showing some of the structure or landscape that contributes to the dark silhouette might be a workable option. However, mostly, like the fashion of misty slow shutter waterfalls this is what we seem to see.

In any case, we all like to be taken to new places.

Sunrises at this large imperial and religious site seem to be of great interest as shown here with an fascinating picture diary and here with simple explanations of the calendar function and then here in much more detail and explanation but without detailed diagrams or photographs to go with the assertions.

There seems to be a lot of creative potential in this subject and it obviously has a magnetic attraction since its celestially informed-architecture, temples and carvings are so rich with Khmer imperial history and cultural meaning.

Thanks for sharing,

Asher

Thanks, Asher.

That shot is of the main temple complex, but there are probably 30 or 40 different temples in the Angkor Wat complex. You could spend weeks there and not see them all.

The shot is simple but represents a lot of complexity in the location, the power of princes and the overlayed religious connection now.

It really works. At least it does at the small size. How does the full version print and at what size. Does detail come through and still maintain the beauty of the image and not degrade it.

Lee, thanks for your kind words.

Asher, I will be printing this soon to enter in a contest at my school, so I will let you know how it holds up in a larger format.

It should be OK (I hope) as I took it on my FZ-30.

I'm actually thinking I might put up links to the photos I plan on entering to see if anyone has any ideas for improvement Photoshop-wise, as I don't have much experience with PS.

Hi Jeff,

That FZ30 is a great camera!

Post them here and we'll try our best to be constructive!

Good luck!

Here are the shots...

The first is the sunrise picture above.

The second is also from Angkor Wat. I only wanted a picture of the elephant trunk staircases, and these three girls ran in at the last second. This is cropped to limit the view of the overexposed sky and obviously needs to be brightened a bit.

I also love this shot:

but would like to tweak the gold a bit to look more like this (the photos are of the same row of Buddhas

Actually there are well over 100 structures in the Angkor Region

But in the Southeast Asia Region Encompassing Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand there are over 1000's and 1000's of Angkor Ruins...

I have so far visited just over 200 Angkor Period Ruins :)

The pictures below were taken during my 2005 trip (ive been back to Cambodia 2001, 2001, 2005, 2006)... These pictures did not USE ANY filters or Post taken Photoshops or nothing they are their original splendors and colours!!!! (*except to resize)

Alot of my current Angkor pictures were taken during my earlier trips with a shocking 1megapixel camera... I have yet to update these pictures ... Im currently in the process of going through my pictures now... just came back from a Southeast Asia backpacking journey.. so I have many new pictures to update, resize and upload....

I plan to re-organise and design the Angkor ruins gallery and change it to a Ancient Ruins gallery with sub galleries of different Ruins in Southeast Asia.... and then also to re-organise the Sub Angkor ruins so its not so messy as it is now....
