Enhancing OPF: Testing Attachments

Does the image show?

For those not in the know, attachments to posts were enabled for images when we shifted to the new server months ago. Attachments are uploaded via the paperclip icon in the GUI editor.

The size limits have been adjusted towards a balance of size and quality to help maintain the readability of the forum and ensure that attachments are completely viewable by most visitors.

some info,

Hi Sean,

Not sure what you're looking for, but......
I can only see the attached image if I'm logged in. If I view the forum as a guest there's no image, just a link that invites me to login when I click it.

Regards,

Stuart

Are their any limits on the number of attached images allowed?
In my experience most members are responsible, but a minority abuse the system and treat the forum as their personal image hosting site.

No, I didn't know that. I must have missed the memo,

I'll have to try it.

Thanks for this new feature.

But what is the "GUI editor"? The editor I usually use to compose posts seems pretty GUI to me, but I don't find any paper-clip icon on it.

And the "Posting Rules" panel says "attachments are not permitted".

Thanks.

Best regards,

Doug

GUI editor?

Hi, Sean,

Do you mean the WYSIWYG editor? I didn't have that turned on in my preferences.

Now I do.

But nothing seems different (other than the screen color in the edit window).

Best regards,

Doug

My apologies, this was only done for a few usergroups and not all. This test was public as a private test would not have shown the behavior of a thread for logged out users.

As noted, there is the problem of abuse which will be addressed.

Further info on this will be shared as known.

thanks,

Sean

We're just gentle sticking a toe in the water of attachments to learn how it might impact us, the pro and the cons. Sean is doing that and just thought it would be interesting to explore this for us as we are going to migrate to vBulletin v4.0.
