I was almost shocked when I saw this image...now allow me explain!
During my childhood I had an grand-uncle who owned some 600 acres or so of Maryland land.
Some of it was cleared and leased to local farmers but the vast majority was pine forest.
Maryland's soil (if you could call it that) was mostly fine white sand.
Behind his home there was a lone road that led deep into the forest (you have captured it precisely as my memory can recall!).
My cousin and I would walk that road every day, going from the hazy, hot and humid Maryland summer sun into the cool silent cavern of a forest.
We would walk for hours, as only 10 year olds can do. We never once came to the end.
Oh, but what adventures along the way!
