The repetition

Hi,

These are some pictures from an amateur theater repetition.
They are preparing "Arturo Ui" by Bertold Brecht for a summer festival.
It's a long time they didn't meet to repet, it's hard to play on this particular day and the director is not very happy...

Cedric,

I can say which I like best but I'm happy going through them, each for its own sake. This is a worthy set of your work. I like the mood of the theater group that has been transmitted though your images.

Do you mean rehearsal or does repetition have another meaning?

Asher

Hi Asher,

I have wondered which english word was appropriated : "repetition" (which is very close to french word "répétition") or "rehearsal" ;) I wanted to mean rehearsal.

This exercice was not easy, as i got a lot of missed pictures... Hard to capture expressions when people are moving and playing. I think 4 or 5 pictures are missing to get a complete good series : i'd like to have more scene pictures when comedians are playing, i think end of series is coming too quickly and abruptly.

I hope that the theater will be happy with the pictures. ;)

Now, Cedric, I have to catch up with Brecht! I will try to find a synopsis of the play.

I thought you used the word, Repetitions as the director was unhappy and made them keep repeating everything over and over and over again because they were not doing things his way! I will come back to this. I have been diverted with a lot of photography to be delivered.

I didn't see or read the entire play myself... but i know the general story and it's very interesting : the growing of Arturo Ui, a gangster from Chicago who uses fears of society and economical interests of upper classers to catch power using violence and hatry. It is supposed to be an analogy of Hitler's story transposed to a modern city in USA. I think i will purchase the synopsis too.

Very good idea !

Number 3 is great, I love it. Since you are using a Minox, and this image seems quite grainy, did you perhaps make this image with the Minox and TriX (like your Car image from the other thread?)? If so, I am doubly impressed, because of the shallow DOF and guess-focusing on the hand, although I almost can't believe DOF this shallow can be created with the 35mm f/2.8 lens.

Hi,

Actually, this is not a Minox shot ;) This entire series has been shot with three cameras :

- Leica M6 with 35mm lens and Tri-X
- Leica CL with 50mm lens and Portra 800
- Nikon F100 with 85mm lens and Tri-X or Portra 160NC

#3 is also my favourite one, it has been shot with the F100 and AF-D 1.8/85.
