Over the years I have taken many many silhouette images at beaches. I know they are cliche - but I still find them interesting. Quite often they were of my children standing along the water's edge providing standalone geometric shapes - or may have been as i was walking along I noticed someone standing or sitting in stark contrast to the background.
At any rate, while putting together the image set for a photo book, I revisited this silhouette that I remember being very patient with. And the patience couldn't have resulted in anything better for me.
There was a group of boys playing soccer along the large San Juan del Sur beach. The ball got kicked and rolled into the water. Almost as if it were choreographed, five of them headed to the water to retrieve the ball. I took several shots as they went about their business. As they came out of the water, I noticed a symetry forming between the five of them as they walked slowing back up the beach talking with each other. I took one shot, two shots, and then all of a sudden as if they knew what I wanted - - - they formed this precision line, split off at equadistance from each other, and even held the ball out to the side for what is for me a perfect capture. It really stands out as a silhouette against the backdrop of the sea in behind, created from the use of an equvalent 600mm lens from a slightly higher elevation pointing down.
