I was talking to a new owner of such a store. They are now offering deli sandwiches and make tuna or chicken salad, (laced with fresh cranberries), on Jewish Rye. The lady is Japanese!
However, the commercial prepackaged food, potatoe chips, candy bars and the like and liquor is such an efficient easy business that most have little incentive to bother to make fresh food.
Still, it’s such a fabulous thing to have a great home-made sandwich just down the street!
