I thought I'd post these here as they don't really fit the landscape category.

This chap was walking through an alley in Stavanger and perhaps looks more threatening than seemed the case at the time! 5D, 24-105 at f9 (1/40th and IS!)

And this one, whose face I think is wonderful, was sharing a ferry ride with us. 1Ds3 70-200 f4 at 5.6 iso400

A composition with a narrow gauntlet is always impressive. Here we have a small main subject and that point makes us riveted. We have little choice since we are forced to skim over the dark cobblestones and or the wall slats without stopping.

There are some minor issues. First the wire above the lamp is a distraction and that area might be trimmed. Next while the blacks and dark grays in the cobblestones are rich and interesting, the other end of the dynamic range of the image is eroded somewhat by the clouds having been blown out. If that can be repaired, the picture would be strengthened.

I like this gentleman and his expression of thoughtfulness. The generous wide repeated cyclic folds in his sweater provide a rhythm of importance to him, as if each was another story. This dark magnified pattern balances the fine beard. There are exquisite details in the band that secure his hat and the black tape by which his spectacles hang around his neck. The lower third of the picture might be possibly dispensed with as well as a 1" strip from the top, to obtain a square format with the figure and no distractions!

Thanks for sharing these pictures. I do appreciate the style!
