Douglas A. Kerr: Unnumbered No. 1

On the right, Carla; on the left, outgoing Alamogordo, N.M. mayor Susie Galea, taken at a recent meeting of the Alamogordo City Commission (would be called a City Council in most places).

This was Susie's last Commission meeting (the mayor is the chair of the Commission). She has resigned her seat as Mayor (with two years left in her term) so she can move to Albuquerque, N.M. to be closer to competent specialized medical care for her two daughters.

Susie has done a wonderful job in bringing new businesses and merchants to Alamogordo, in working with the Air Force to help encourage the assignment of various programs to Holloman Air Force Base, our biggest industry (and the retention of existing programs), on extending the main runway at our small airport so that fairly-serious planes can land here (including Forest Service firefighting aircraft, which can now be based here), and on many other fronts. She has boundless energy and enthusiasm, probably matched by only one other woman in town (also seen in the shot above).

A new mayor will be elected next Tuesday (Susie timed her resignation so this could be done as part of the normal annual municipal election).

We will miss her.
The photo is from my Panasonic DMC-FZ100, available light, ex camera except for exposure compensation and fill lighting, cropping, and downsizing (all done in Silkypix Developer Studio).

Best regards,

Doug

It is great to have politicians who really are devoted to public service. I do hope the replacement will live up to the example she has set.

You may give her 100 hugs from all of us. I wish the current Presidential candidates would be so easy to love!
