A tig welder assembling pipe. Nice, but the pipe is a bit dominant in the picture, I would cut a bit of the bottom of the frame.

Hi James,

I don't mind the pipe being big, I think the amount of white sky balances it out, but I do think it feels too important because perhaps the shot could have used just a tad more time, so that the camera would have captured a bit more of the reflected light, the lit up smoke and more of the sparks.

Obviously, this is just my opinion and doesn't make your image in anyway not good.

Here's my faked version:

I understand your work, Maggie, but prefer this less startling and original rendition the James gave us. It has the right balance of the dramatic and pastoral so that one is not just taken in by immediacy but one can also linger and muse.

Actually, I think it depends on when you look at the image. Now that it is darker in here with no light coming in, the original seems more striking. In less light, the head looked dark and I could barely make out what it was.

The other reason I wanted it bright was that two houses down from me, there is a man who does welding as a hobby of sorts and there is always this huge glow and lots of sparks.

James, I hope you know that this was just a suggestion and not that your image was in any way wrong or not good.

Thank you Jerome , Maggie and Asher for taking the time to comment on this image.

I am happy with the feeling of the original . Your comments and feedback are very much appreciated and have provided me more insight into the image and a much better understanding of it.

Well, I have revisited and I must say I'm enjoying both versions.

James had you presented Maggie's version, I'd have been impressed too! There are so many ways of showing a great capture!
