Having fun with chatGTP image creation this morning after finding out that they have a new updated model available for editing image files. I mean it is more accurate and maybe even faster to create these type of product in room settings type of images for website, compositing layers in a photo editing program…

… but the result was really quite impressive being that I used a photo that is not straight on, has tons of glare on the glass and frame, and is sitting on a couch to extract from —— and with such a simple prompt, provided a usable web sized pic where the proportions are decent, the framed picture has been extracted, glare removed, straightened and placed on a wall with an appropriate shadow behind it. The caveat being that I was limited in the number of attempts on the free application. Have to wait until tomorrow to try again. Anyway it satisfied my curiosity.

This was the photo that I uploaded to chatGTP to come up with the result based on.

Robert,

This new tool is fabulous!

I took the liberty of trying to extract and equally good image from your starting picture and then the chatGPT result. Each edited to my satisfaction as “likely as good as it can be”.

Of course I could try again with the angled image with reflections omit for sure the reflections can be removed by simple standard professional editing techniques.

The Chat GPT is not only very usable, but still retains fine gradations of whites that allow the water to be shown with more detail with ordinary techniques.

So the new tooling ChatGPT is exceptional in not only removing reflections but also in retaining the underlying nuances of differences in highlights.

To me this is simply amazing as there are so many shots we take in museums and galleries spoiled by reflections. Obviously we must change our angle to minimize reflections, but your finding provides promise and possibility that at least some of these pictures can be salvaged!

So pretty interesting find. Tonight I decided to use the same base image and exactly the same simple prompt to see the result I would get from Google Gemini, as well as my go-to app each day, Microsoft CoPilot. Absolutely not useful at all for this type of request.

Here is the result from Google Gemini

And here is what I got using CoPilot
