USS Midway - San Diego, California USA '15

This is a short attempt at documenting this ship, which is currently a museum and in its own right an exhibit itself. The thousands of people that were there made it extra hard to try and document the whole ship...but I did what I could with a dynamic approach, and I hope some people might find my efforts favourable.

The hullside of USS Midway, with a view towards North Island and the birthplace(?) of the US Navy.

Some heavy metal indeed, weighing in at 45,000 tonnes, and 60,000 tonnes with fuel onboard.

These are all impressive. We get the sense of the massively and power.

So much so, that I think you should send the Navy information office there copies. These are among the most well constructed I've seen. But then, all the work on monuments lead up to this opportunity and you nailed it and more!

I just need a commision and some permission, if you know what I mean. I would love to be given full access to some place or other, and be able to prove myself. I feel like i'm always just hunting around the edges of things and only getting a sniff of what could be much more.

Thanks, Asher...

Hi, Paul,

A fabulous vessel!

Here (in 2010) we see Carla in the Air Boss' chair:

and here at the helm (helm amidships, in fact):

Hey Doug, are there any pics of you sat in the mini boss's chair? :)
I thought the tour guide gave a great talk about the operations of this ship, very insightful.
Carla's hat must have been in her hands up and down the ladders eh. Great that she had it on for the picture, what a contrast.

Hi, Paul,

Sadly, no.

Yes, for our visit as well.

Carla's hat must have been in her hands up and down the ladders eh.

Not sure, but probably not.

Here she is in 2009 about to go through the hatch into a miniature submarine in Hawaii wearing a serious yellow hat:

But I think she did take if off once we were seated so as not to block the view of others.

Great that she had it on for the picture, what a contrast.

It is almost always in place when she is out and about!

Thanks.

Best regards,

Doug
