James,

This is so fab! I hope you managed to get more of them. I wonder what the occasion was? The woman has panache as does your photograph.

Asher

Thank you for the very kind words Asher. This was the #37th annual Powell Street Festival - the largest Japanese Canadian festival in the country and the longest running community celebration in Vancouver!

THEME FOR 2013: CHAMPION
This year, the Powell Street Festival celebrated artistic champions who have risen above an array of challenges in order to create dynamic works and build stronger communities.

I don't usually take pictures of actual events as I find it rather difficult due to the large number of people in attendance. Instead, I usually look for odd things; juxtapositions, interesting people, and unusual things that may happen on the periphery of the event itself. A few kids were nice enough to pose for a pic and I did see something very unusual while I was on my way to the festivities . Hope you enjoy the images !

I had seen the initial image in this post the other day and was trying to digest what was going on...
I had thought it was something like what they do in Japan, like Harajuku or somewhere like that; some sort of anime convention...
Anyway, I was loving the look of their pristine hair in the first image. :) You didn't spot any women posing as characters from Urotsukidoji did you? :D

The guy with what looks like 'teddy bear tumours' down his shirt is interesting and amusing, I wish you had framed him better and shown a better context. Although, it looks like you shot from the hip so to speak. :)
