My biggest disagreement with this shot is the BG being quite incongruent to the subject. It makes no sense.

I can agree. Just a candid. Had the background setup and my daughter waddled over with her snack.

What do you think of the processing? I tried something different.

I thought this picture was allegorical - child alone on a rough terrain. I wonder if that was on the back of your mind with all the news of conflicts? Anyway, that was my immediate feeling that the picture evoked so strongly for me.

What a nice image Jake !

The window is on the top of the wall isn't it ? It returns a very soft light much in tune with the subject.

If it isn't from a window - perhaps facing north assuming you are in the North hemisphere, is it from large softbox ?

The window(s) is pretty large(4x5 feet) with two smaller standard sized windows on each side. My daughter was slightly angled towards them.
