Hi Peter,

I could have sworn I had replied when you first posted this, but I checked and I was mistaken - sorry!

I like this shot - there is great detail and surprisingly wide depth of field, seeming to go from wingtip to wingtip. The pose is quite nice, and the background is unusual and really adds to the image.

Can you provide some additional details - where and how it was taken, what equipment and settings, etc.?

Hi Don, Winston

I'll try and answer some of your questions as best as I can.

The photo was taken in Sandy Cove, which is south of Dublin, in Ireland. I was shooting with a Canon 1D MKII with a Canon 300mm. The day was bright so the ISO setting was 100 and the shutter speed was kept above 500.

This was hand held, I was shooting from an outcrop of rock from the beach, the heron was very accommodating.
