In Perspective, Planet: Winter Blues

Let's face it, winter wears out its welcome after the first month of the season when the cheery snow and holidays are over. We're all fed up with ice and snow by the time January rolls around, and the blush is totally off the rose by February.

The intention of this thing is to capture the mood of the late winter season. It works for me. Well, today anyway. Does it work for anyone else?

Info: this a stretch of the Illinois River where flooding makes development impossible. The high ground at the north side of the river allows for the loading of grain and mined silica and gravel. The south (left) side of the river is a no-man's "nature preserve". I prefer no-man's land myself.

Hi Tom,

Indeed, it captures the mood just fine. Although every season has it's special moments, I'm also looking forward towards spring with all its variety in shades of green, yet still with low sun-angles to sculpt the ground features.

Cheers,
Bart

Tom Robbins: Winter blues

Tom,

Yes, this has the feeling of such quiet that it's been left in limbo. The water is still, no boat or tug traffic, no kids or old man fishing, no birds in the sky. It's just nature and life paused.

It also is like a truce between nature on the left and industry on the right!

One bird would make a difference like the one returning to Noah in the bible after the flood!

Hi Bart and Asher,

Thank you for looking and for your comments. Green sprouts are probably getting started under the soil surface at this point, but there will be precious little evidence of them for at least a couple of weeks. Cardinals and Red Wing Blackbirds have been rehearsing their spring songs the last several days, so audible harbingers are beginning to show up. I can't wait to swap insulated underwear and crampons for mud boots and mosquito repellent.
