Simply Beautiful beginning of growth. Jaime, you constantly amaze me by your observations. The focus, rendering of the fur and angle of the head against the blurred background startle us into spring!

How fast can they grow before he can compete for females?

I believe this is a picture of the same bull two weeks ago - so you can see how fast they grow.

They "go into the rut" in early September. At that time they compete for the females. Their antlers usually harden up and get rubbed clean (of velvet) in late August.
