The Missouri Republican presidential primary

Doug Kerr

The state of Missouri will hold its Republican presidential primary on Tuesday, 2012.02.07.

The primary has absolutely no direct effect on the selection or commitment of delegates to the Republican National Convention. It in effect just becomes a statewide opinion poll.

On Saturday, 2012.03.17, the Republican Party will conduct caucuses on a county basis. The participants will elect delegates to the Republican conventions held for each congressional district, and for the statewide Republican convention.

There is no formal system applied in the County Caucus to relate the presidential preference of the County Caucus participants to the election of delegates to the District and State Convention. Those in attendance at each caucus alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor and, if so, how it is to be applied.

The Republican congressional district conventions will be held on Saturday, 2012.04.21. 24 of Missouri's total of 52 delegates to the Republican National Intervention will be selected in these conventions, from aspirants committed to specified contenders for the balloting at the national convention.

Best regards,

Doug
